This individual will primarily manage capital projects for several sites within the region and will report to the Composite Materials Capex Manager.  

This position will be responsible for all aspects of project management of capital projects from conceptual scope development, detailed design, management of the design team, construction management, and leading the start-up, commissioning and training activities.  Specific duties will include items such as interacting with the plant personnel, gathering information, developing and costing conceptual solutions, detailed design, safety design, developing project justifications and cost estimates, schedule development, and cost management. The individual will also be responsible for development of construction packages, equipment and contractor procurement, coordination of construction activities, and for startup and commissioning activities. The individual must be self-motivated and be able to work as a team or independently on multiple concurrent projects.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage capital projects typically ranging from $50k up to $2m.  Opportunity to work on larger projects up to $7m.
  • Person will be required to supervise and manage internal and external resources including engineering, mechanical, electrical and general contractor companies, as necessary, to complete project work. 
  • Own one or more major pieces of process equipment on major capital projects through the development of equipment specifications, management of OEM’s, development of SAT and FAT protocols.
  • Complete conceptual project studies including Font End Loading development, preliminary scope development, cost estimates, and schedules.                   
  • Develop detailed project studies including comprehensive project scope documents, project justifications, definitive cost estimates, and project schedules. Develop design documents including layout drawings, multifunctional discipline drawings, equipment drawings, and piping drawings.
  • Compile and submit project capital request documentation including justification, scope details, project schedules, cost estimates and HSE compliance.
  • Execute and manage all aspects of approved capital projects including engineering design, procurement, and generation of purchase orders, contractor work package development, building permit applications, health and safety plans for construction,  construction coordination, startup and commissioning, managing project costs and project schedules.                                
  • Develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans; conferring with management.
  • Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.
  • Control project costs by approving expenditures; working with purchasing to administer contractor contracts.
  • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and project specifics; recommending actions.
  • Manage contractors during construction activities; familiar with safe work permit procedures.
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
  • Assist plant teams in identifying appropriate projects for annual budgeting. 
  • Compile all project information and documents needed for operating procedures and operator training.

 

Education and Experience

  • BS in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Systems or Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years project management, construction management, engineering or combination of these in industrial application preferred.

 

Must-have skills

  • Must have excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Must be familiar with industry standard project management techniques.
  • Must have experience in leading a multi-functional project team.
  • Must have experience in developing and managing the FEL process including project schedules and project costs.
  • Must have equipment specification experience (defining equipment requirements, selection).
  • Must have working knowledge of safety hazard reviews and risk mitigation techniques.
  • Must have experience developing contractor work packages, managing contracts and coordinating contractors.
  • Proficient use of Excel, MS Word, MS Project, cost estimating programs, AutoCad.
  • Must have a solid working knowledge of process operations.
  • Must have understanding of OSHA standards, concepts, and procedures.
  • Strong project engineering / management skills.
  • Proven track record of managing capital projects.

 

Nice-to-have skills

  • Professional Engineer Stamp or Project Management Professional certification a plus-but not required.
  • Experience in managing and developing capital budgets.
  • Experience in managing larger projects $2-10m.

Competitive salary and benefits package

The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $103,360 to $129,200 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
