Scientific Research Intern/Co-Op

Fixed-term contract

USA - Bristol, PA, US

Feb 19, 2025
Syensqo

Syensqo is all about chemistry. We’re not just referring to chemical reactions here, but also to the magic that occurs when the brightest minds get to work together. This is where our true strength lies. In you. In your future colleagues and in all your differences. And of course, in your ideas to improve lives while preserving our planet’s beauty for the generations to come.

We are looking for:

A summer intern for our Scientific Research Co-Op position at our Bristol location.

We count on you for:

  • The candidate will investigate the solution structure and surface adsorption of Next-Gen Metal Treatment and Lubricant additives.
  • Current technology for industrial metal treatment for enhanced adhesion of paint on metallic substrates, is a complex fluid with polymers, ions and corrosion inhibitors.
  • Continuous use of these baths can result in instability and phase behavior that needs to be understood for critical coating applications.
  • Similarly, polymeric additives in lubricants have special functionalities to promote surface adsorption for wear resistance and corrosion inhibition. Solution structure in the oil phase, kinetics of adsorption, and metal interfacial layer structure need to be elucidated especially for high rpm EV applications.
  • The overall goal of this research at the PhysChem Cell will entail fundamental investigations of molecular interactions between novel functional polymers, ions and surfactants in solution and then the subsequent deposition on metallic interfaces.
  • The candidate will have the opportunity to learn and utilize different physical chemistry techniques and tools; such as isothermal titration calorimetry, optical microscopy, confocal, atomic force microscopy, spectroscopy, zeta potential, light scattering, ellipsometry, quartz microbalance and/or rheology.
  • The candidate will learn safety procedures in the Syensqo environment and to develop good safety habits. He/she is also expected to carefully record and summarize generated data for the project. The candidate will work under the direct supervision of a senior scientist on the related project.

You can count on us for:

  • Relevant course work or internship experience that will help you perform tasks listed above

.

You will get:

  • Competitive hourly salary
  • Hands on experience
  • Opportunity to build industry connections
