We are seeking a motivated and innovative intern to join the Polymer Physics team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects involving machine learning, microscopy, and data aggregation to enhance our understanding of composite structure-property relationships.

The internship will focus on two main projects:

Machine Learning for Optical Micrograph Characterization

• Develop and implement a process to interpret high-resolution optical micrographs.
• Focus on identifying and quantifying interlaminar features using Python.
• Tasks include image preprocessing, feature extraction, and parameter estimation.
• Apply machine learning to predict initial guess parameters for automated measurements, streamlining the existing method.\

Data Aggregation and Machine Learning for Polymer Properties:

• Aggregate data from scientific literature, internal databases, and molecular simulations.
• Collaborate with experimental scientists to understand legacy data structures.
• Curate and preprocess data to ensure quality and relevance for training.
• Develop and fine-tune a machine learning model to predict polymer properties such as Tg, density, and mechanical properties.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and objectives.

• Utilize Python and machine learning techniques to develop innovative solutions.
• Conduct data analysis and visualization to support project goals.
• Document processes and findings, ensuring transparency and reproducibility.
• Present project progress and results to team members and stakeholders.

You will bring:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Materials Science, or a related field.
• Basic programming skills in Python.
• Familiarity with image processing and data aggregation techniques.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
