Job Summary:
The Process Safety (PS) Engineer is a member of the Health & Safety Management Team within the Specialty Polymers GBU. The primary role of the PS Engineer is to support the deployment of the Group Process Safety policies, programs, guidelines and tools. Another key aspect is to assist manufacturing sites in compliance with applicable regulatory laws and Syensqo Group requirements for process safety ensuring process safety elements are reviewed, gaps are identified, and corrective actions are implemented for continuous improvement. This position will participate in Group Internal Audits and process safety regulatory audits. The PS Engineer will participate in the Group PS Network, provide input on trend analysis, and offer guidance to sites on implementation of process safety improvements

- Share Knowledge of Group Requirements and Process Safety Regulations:
- Stay up to date on pending and changing regulatory requirements.
- Effectively and timely communicate to sites regarding upcoming changes in regulations
- Train new site HSE Managers on Syensqo requirements during their onboarding process.
- Complete CAPEX reviews for strategic investment projects
- Process Safety Performance and Impact:
- Define key metrics and leading actions.
- Implement leading indicators, set benchmarks, and collaborate with engineering teams to improve safety critical items.
- Monitor and analyze process safety performance metrics.
- Review PS incidents for correct categorization
- Identify trends and patterns in process safety incidents.
- Communicate trends and improvement opportunities with the PS network, sites and management teams.
- Participate in the PS Networks:
- Active participation in the Group PS Network is expected
- Ability to lead the regional PS Network, as needed
- Participate in rewrites of Group PS procedures and guidelines
- Process Safety Auditing:
- Lead regulatory PSM audits as needed
- Lead the Process Safety portion of the Group Procedure Internal Audits to ensure site compliance with Group policies
- Validate the closure of PS audit findings
- Develop Good Relationships with colleagues and sites for close collaboration:
- Become the process safety point of contact for multiple sites
- Promote a culture of safety through collaboration and open communication
- Partner with sites to provide on-site PS support, as needed
- Collaborate and align with other HSE work streams within GBU and Group to ensure consistent, data-driven, and proactive process safety management across all sites, enhancing compliance, performance tracking and risk mitigation.
- Share Process Safety Knowledge:
- Support GBU/Site PS Engineers with hands-on support during initial PRAs
- Review PRAs to ensure compliance with Syensqo Internal Methodology. Provide feedback to Risk Analysts based upon the PRA review
- Continuously update knowledge and skills in process safety
- Attend relevant training sessions, workshops, and conferences
- Site support:
- Become the go-to person for process safety support and questions for assigned sites
- Resolve requests by sites within timely manner
- Support major risk analysis and mitigation as needed through structured safety reviews and proactive interventions.
- Lead root cause analysis for process safety incidents using ThinkReliability, implement sustainable corrective actions, and share lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
You will bring:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's or equivalent University degree in a technical field (Chemical or Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent
- 5-10 years of experience in plant operations
- Experience in process safety management
- Knowledge of local and national process safety regulations, such as EPA RMP, OSHA PSM, SEVESO
- Familiarity with industry standards and practices (API, ASME, NFPA, etc.)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
